Rita Baker of Lydbury English Centre just posted this classic negotiation video to the BESIG list. Thanks Rita!

There’s an obvious classroom task here – what’s the other person saying? But your students might just like to watch it for fun. Oh and click here for an earlier version.

  1. Very funny, didn’t see the punchline coming at all…

If I do base a lesson around it, I’m thinking:
    – Brainstorm things you could negotiate with a dentist
    – Watch and check
    – Watch again to analyse the language that he uses

Then maybe the thing you suggested about guessing what the other person said. Then, if I can think of any, some similar haggling people down situations as roleplays.

The important thing is still remembering this video when the next negotiations lesson comes around!

  2. OMG – I so didn’t see that coming! Ha, ha, ha…

  3. Thanks again, Vicki!

I’ve had a lot of fun with the Lucy one – and all my classes can rattle off the tech. vocab. involved. This looks like another winner!! Thanks a lot and – keep up the good work!
